Increase Speed of VPN / Compression (wodVPN)

Is there a way to increase the speed of the VPN, perhaps by adding compression to the connection?

Yes, I've tried it, but FindMTU results often in a paketsize of 2999, but this can't be, so I use a fix value of 1392 that fits in most cases.
