Is there a way to increase the speed of the VPN, perhaps by adding compression to the connection?

Did you maybe tried to increase package size value using MTU Property?

Yes, I've tried it, but FindMTU results often in a paketsize of 2999, but this can't be, so I use a fix value of 1392 that fits in most cases.
