what do I need to build a complete P2P chat servic (General questions)

Hello,

If I like to build a P2P chat service base on XMPP and VPN component. What do I need to prepare?

1. Regist account(s) in Gtalk
2. friend list server(s). For getting friend list?
3. mediator server(s)
4. Client (like wippien)

Do I need anything else?
